Blevio Village

Blevio is a charming lakeside village located on the eastern shore of Lake Como, just a few kilometers north of the city of Como. The village is composed of seven small hamlets, each with its own character and history. You’ll be staying in Capovico, the first of Blevio’s seven hamlets when arriving from Como. Nestled about 70–80 meters above lake level, it offers beautiful panoramic views and a peaceful setting, a perfect base for both relaxation and exploration.

🌿 Nature & Hiking

Blevio is surrounded by nature and crisscrossed by ancient paths. From Capovico, you can easily join several scenic hiking trails, including the famous Strada Regia, a historic mule track that once connected Como to Bellagio. This trail leads you through forests and old stone villages, offering stunning panoramic views over the lake.

If you're in the mood for a more mountain-like landscape, you can hike up to Brunate (about 1.5 hours on foot), a hilltop town above Como known for its Art Nouveau villas and spectacular viewpoints. In the opposite direction, a quieter trail leads to Monte Piatto, a peaceful spot above Torno with beautiful views and a mystical "Pietra Pendula", a large balancing rock suspended on a cliff.

🌊 Lake Access & Activities

You can reach the lake by foot via a stone staircase or a small asphalt road, depending on your preference. The walk takes between 15 and 30 minutes and brings you to a picturesque lakeside area with:

  • A public swimming spot

  • A lakefront restaurant with views of the water

  • A self-drive boat rental, perfect for exploring the lake independently

  • A quaint church and a romantic square overlooking a small harbor

Just off the Lariana State Road (SS583), you'll find the Blevio Wakeboard Club, where you can try kayaking, water skiing, wakeboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, and more.

🏛️ Historical Curiosities

Blevio has a rich history dating back to Roman times, and later became a favored retreat for Milanese nobility. The 19th century saw the construction of several noble villas, including Villa Troubetzkoy and Villa Roccabruna, now home to the prestigious Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

A local legend tells of seven sisters who founded the seven hamlets of Blevio, and to this day, many locals refer to the frazioni using their traditional names and family ties. In Capovico, traces of old stone mills and narrow alleyways speak to its medieval past and its connection with silk and wool production in nearby Como.

🛒 Essentials & Local Life

In Piazza Roma, the main square of the village, you’ll find:

  • A small grocery store (La Dispensa) for everyday essentials

  • A bar serving drinks, coffee, and quick meals

  • A hairdresser

  • A pharmacy, located a short walk further uphill

Locals are welcoming, and life here moves at a peaceful pace. Don’t hesitate to greet people with a friendly “Buongiorno!”

🚍 Getting Around – Public Transport & Connections

  • By bus: Blevio is served by the C30 line (ASF Autolinee), which connects Como to Bellagio. The stop is along the SS583, about 10–15 minutes uphill on foot from Capovico. Buses run roughly every hour during the day.

  • To Como: In about 15–20 minutes, the bus takes you to Como San Giovanni (main train station) or Como Lago (adjacent to the ferry terminal).

  • To Bellagio: Heading north, the same line brings you to Bellagio in about 40–50 minutes, passing through scenic lake villages like Torno, Faggeto Lario, and Nesso.

  • By boat: Blevio has a small pier where a limited number of boats stop daily. For more frequent connections, we recommend heading to Torno, which can be reached via a short hike or by bus. From there, regular ferries connect to all major lake towns: Como, Bellagio, Varenna, and more.

Whether you’re here to hike, relax, or explore Lake Como’s rich culture and history, Blevio offers a peaceful and authentic setting, just steps away from natural beauty, historical charm, and world-class destinations.
